It's nice to see that some of the old Forever Knight locations are still there, some almost unchanged, others quite altered. Here are some sites how they look today.

96th precinct

The building that was used for the external shots of the 96th precinct is still a library.

The morgue

The building is still there, however the morgue has moved to a different location. Oddly there're still remnants from the coroner sign.

Nick's loft has undergone major renovations already many years ago. An entire storey has been added to the building. But they put the original water tower back on top.

The Raven

The Raven has changed owners several times, but the building is still there, including its original door. During the filming of FK, it was an actual nightclub called Fluid Lounge. Then the interior was completely stripped and renovated. It became a sports bar called The Fifth. Recently it reopened as a Mexican restaurant with a quite interesting interior design.

BCE Place

BCE Place from Games Vampires Play is still there, although it's now called Brookfield Place for a while.

CN Tower

And of course the CN Tower is still there in all its shining glory.

Finally I saw The Shape of Water in the movie theatre. What a delightful film! A nice change from today's action-packed movies. Instead it was wonderfully nostalgic with a lot of nods towards classic Hollywood. Ranging from Jack Arnold's Creature from the Black Lagoon over Betty Grable to Mr. Ed. The sentence "Bonanza is too violent for kids" was hilarious. Oh those good old times...

The end was totally awesome. And I liked the music so much (in particular Renée Fleming's "You'll Never Know") that I'm going to buy the soundtrack.

And then there was Nigel, speaking Russian all the time, with subtitles. He appears in several scenes. I was torn between watching him and reading what he was actually saying. I definitely need to watch that again.

John Kapelos was supposed to be in the movie as well, but I have to admit that I missed or didn't recognise him. Shame on me! Another reason to watch it again.

Other familiar sites included a teal-coloured Cadillac, although it wasn't a convertible. And I recognised several Toronto locations, such as streetcar tracks, Massey Hall, Cherry Street shore, Gardiner Expressway, and the beautiful Elgin Theatre.

Stage:

Geraint Wyn Davies is currently on stage in Liv Stein at the Bluma Apple Theatre, Toronto. The German play by Nino Haratischwili about a world-class concert pianist who gives up her career after her son's death had its English-language premiere last week, runs through Feb 12.

Nigel Bennett is currently on stage in The Audience at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto. The play about the Queen and her prime ministers runs through Feb 26. Nigel plays PM Harold Wilson.

Screen:

Nigel can currently be seen in 3D in the movie xXx3 - The Return of Xander Cage.
I've seen it last night, in 3D, but only in German. It's a brief appearance, but it's nice to see him on the big screen.

Nigel Bennett will be returning as Chief Constable Giles in the next episode of Murdoch Mysteries, airing Monday at 8 p.m. on CBC.

Update: This episode was brilliant!!! Excellent writing and superb acting.

CBC offers an interesting Behind the scenes video. Might also be useful for FK flashbacks as it shows the historic Toronto of 1902.

The Raven, or rather the club that served as the filming site for our favourite Toronto nightclub on Richmond/Duncan has reopened as a sportsbar. The entire building has ondergone major renovations during the last year. It now houses several venues under the name The Fifth. The Fifth Pubhouse is located on the ground floor/basement that is accessible through the Raven's former front door. The alley entrance leads to a smaller bar called Cabin Five.

I haven't been there yet, just passed by in a taxi at night, and was happy to see crowds of people going in and out.

The change would certainly make for an interesting fanfic, don't you think? In this context, it comes in handy that [community profile] fkficfest has opened its sign-up period for this year's game. Sign-ups close on June 7. So drop by and leave your prompts.

It saddened me to read that the cozy bookstore "Nicholas Hoare" located on Front Street, Toronto, is going to close on April 1. It served as location in "Stranger than Fiction" where Emily Weiss had her book signing.
