[community profile] fkficfest released 12 new Forever Knight stories. I enjoyed them all. It was interesting to see how different people approached 5 different prompts. Despite the differences in preferences that the fandom entails, it was amazing how sometimes stories addressed the same issues.
We got new insights into the bond related vampires share. New cures were explored. Lacroix had quite a bit of cleaning up to do. Crimes needed to be solved. Friendships were put to the test.

My own contribution was a case-fic called Too Old and Powerful, in which Nick gets another chance at a cure.

[community profile] fkficfest is currently in the writing phase.

We've elected 5 prompts as a common pool. Each story must use at least 1 of:
- found among the second-hand books
- I'm going to tell you something that you don't want to hear.
- keeping secrets
- The antique hairbrush still held tangles of fine golden hair.
- a lucky break, a chance meeting, and a friend in need

If you want to play, check out the Gameplay Post.

How is everyone doing?

I picked a prompt and have a vague idea of where it might be going.

Unfortunately, I find myself in the dilemma of too much going on at the moment. A mix of family birthdays, soccer games and culture events keeps me busy on weekends, which leaves only weeknights for writing. Since all this is happening in my home town and not in the town where I live, I'm currently heading back and fourth each week. However, I've discovered that taking the train instead of the car is a wonderful way to create a time window for writing. Thanks to the reliability of Deutsche Bahn, one can be certain that the trip takes longer than originally scheduled. Like last Monday, we stopped in the middle of nowhere for one hour because there were people on the tracks ahead. Great opportunity to start my story. I managed to write almost 500 words.

This year's round of [community profile] fkficfest has gifted us with 16 new FK stories. A big thank you to all authors and to [personal profile] brightknightie for the organisation.

I highly recommend reading all stories.

My own contribution this year is a Tracy-centered story set after Ashes to Ashes. While finishing the report on the decapitated corpse case, Tracy makes some connections.

By Any Other Name
PG-13, gen, 5000 words

[community profile] fkficfest is currently in the writing phase. I've finished a draft, but I'm not yet completely happy with it. Anyone out there who wants to take a look and tell me what, if anything, is missing?

The story is 4,800 words long, PG-13 and gen. I could provide a word document or upload on google drive.

Thanks!

My own contribution was Prime Suspect written for the prompt "This experiment went horribly wrong".

Now I have to figure out which of my works in progress I focus on next to get it finished.

FKFicFest has brought forth six new excellent FK stories. You can access them all from here. Go reading and leave a comment if you like.

My contribution was the casefic What Lies Buried.

The investigation of a 40-year old murder case uncovers more than Nick cares for.

Enjoy!

The writing period for this year's [community profile] fkficfest has started. We're playing challenge style again this year, but this time with three prompts to choose from. The prompts were selected in a mutual nomination process. The winners are:

  • Cold case
  • Do over
  • When the price of your heart's desire is your heart

Here is the gameplay post. Everybody is welcome to join.
There's also a wishlist in case writers wish to write for a reader's preferences.

The deadline for the stories is April 19.

I started writing this week. So far I have a body and a suspect, but I have no clue yet who the killer is.

[community profile] fkficfest has brought us 7 new Forever Knight stories. This year we played challenge instead of exchange. The mutual prompt was "10 years".

My contibution is Unexpected Alliance, featuring Nick, Schanke, Lacroix, Natalie, Cohen, and Janette.
Summary: A killer escapes from prison and targets everyone who was involved in the arrest 10 years ago.

While trying to figure out how to approach this prompt, I picked up two works in progress and tried to bend them to the prompt. While this did not work, there are now two more stories sitting in my files, waiting to be finished.

FKFicFest has released! We've got 8 new stories.

My own contribution was Defying the Gods, a case-fic with UFfish background written for [personal profile] nicholas_lucien in answer to the prompt May 1980, Mt St Helens. LaCroix goes to save Nick during the Mt St Helens eruption. He finds Nick, and something more. With a flashback/memory: 79, Pompeii, LaCroix's escape during the Mt Vesuvius eruption.

I received The Advantages of Life Insurance by [personal profile] dlyt, a case-fic with many twists, written in answer to my prompt When Nick and Tracy have to go undercover posing as a couple, Natalie is not amused. Neither is LaCroix.

Out of FKFicFest 2016 I was gifted with two wonderful UF stories by [personal profile] nicholas_lucien: Within the timeframe of the game I received A Shared Passion and as additional surprise I received Hidden Desire addressing the same prompt in a different way.

The prompts I received were so inspiring that I also wrote 2 stories. Within the timeframe of the game I wrote Broken Ties and later Truth or Dare.

Big kudos to moderator [personal profile] brightknightie for providing such perfect matches.

FKFicFest has revealed its stories on AO3. We have 9 magnificent new Forever Knight stories this year.

I received Never What It Seems by [personal profile] lastscorpion (~2000 words, g) featuring Nick, Tracy, Vachon and Detective William Murdoch from Murdoch Mysteries in a flashback. In fact, [personal profile] lastscorpion worked two of my prompts into one story.

Promt 1: Nick & Tracy - Nick and Tracy are sent on an extended stake-out mission. Will Nick be able to hide his nature from a very observant Tracy?

Prompt 2: Nick & Detective William Murdoch (Crossover request) - When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

I wrote How to Disappear Completely (~14400 words, PG13) for [personal profile] twilight2000.

Her prompt was: Nick/Nat - What if something went terribly wrong and Nick had to start over again in, say, New Orleans – and Nat went with?

Please visit the collection and leave comments so that the authors may feel inspired to write more FK.

The Raven, or rather the club that served as the filming site for our favourite Toronto nightclub on Richmond/Duncan has reopened as a sportsbar. The entire building has ondergone major renovations during the last year. It now houses several venues under the name The Fifth. The Fifth Pubhouse is located on the ground floor/basement that is accessible through the Raven's former front door. The alley entrance leads to a smaller bar called Cabin Five.

I haven't been there yet, just passed by in a taxi at night, and was happy to see crowds of people going in and out.

The change would certainly make for an interesting fanfic, don't you think? In this context, it comes in handy that [community profile] fkficfest has opened its sign-up period for this year's game. Sign-ups close on June 7. So drop by and leave your prompts.
