Apparently Toronto got its own spin-off of Law & Order now. Catherine Disher was in episode 3. She played an attourney. It was a brief appearance, but she had some good pointed lines. It was nice to see her on TV again.

Recently the Toronto Star published an interview with Gary Farmer, our Captain Stonetree from Season 1. He talks about his career and his work on behalf of the Indigenous Community. Forever Knight is not mentioned, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

In the season finale of Murdoch Mysteries there was an actor named Jonathan Potts who looked faintly familiar, but I couldn't place him. So I checked IMDB. Turned out he was Charlie in FK's Dying to know you (Season 1) and Walthers in Let no man tear asunder (Season 3).
Fact is that I never noticed that those characters were played by the same actor before. LOL

Lisa Ryder had a guest role in this week's episode of Murdoch Mysteries (Season 15, episode 19)!

Nigel Bennett made another Christmas movie: Christmas on 5th Avenue. Here's a trailer. You can catch a glimpse of him at the end.

The movie he did last year, Christmas in the Rockies, is now available on DVD.

Nigel Bennett made a movie last year called The Family, which recently premiered at the Buson International Film Festival in South Corea (don't ask me why there). While the plot sounds rather creepy and disturbing (it's categorised as a genre-bending thriller), it's nice to see that his part seems to be quite huge.

I love how the trailer begins with the voice-over.

See IMDB for more information and some stunning pics.

I wonder whether this movie will come to cinemas or directly on DVD and TV.

Geraint Wyn Davies participates as Falstaff in the Virtual reading of "Wil", a comedy by Dan Rosen.
Other FK alumni joining him are Colm Feore and Lucy Peacock.

The reading is available for viewing until March 23. To get the access one has to make a donation, which goes to the Actors' Fund.

I bought my ticket and plan to watch it tomorrow.

Here's the Link to the Website.

Nigel Bennett has filmed Christmas in the Rockies. The film is currently streaming in the US on Fox Nation. I'm not familiar with this channel, but I cannot access it from Europe. I hope it will be available to broader audiences later in the year. In Canada it is supposed to air on CityTV in December.

Here's a trailer with a few glimpses of Nigel.

Here's another lively chat with Geraint Wyn Davies interviewing Seana McKenna and Scott Wentworth.

While theatres are closed, the Stratford Festival offers online screenings of some of their filmed productions. So far I've watched King Lear and Coriolanus.

King Lear (2014)

FK alumni include Colm Feore (Blood Money) as the king.

Available until May 14.

Coriolanus (2018)

This is Robert Lepage's stunning production set in modern times. Produced like a film, it was amazing to see this live on stage. Some of the effects are lost when viewed as a film.

FK alumni include Lucy Peacock (The Human Factor) who is an oustanding Volumnia. Other familiar faces, not from FK, but Canadian television are Graham Abbey as Aufidius and Tom McCamus as Menenius. And Tom Rooney and Stephen Ouimette are always a delight to watch.

Available until May 21

V-Wars

I've been watching V-Wars because Nigel Bennett is in episode 1. The 10 episodes are available on Netflix. I'm rather ambiguous about the series. While it was overall suspenseful, there were quite a lot of subplots which didn't make sense. And I missed some explanations as to why some things were the way they were. I didn't like the concept of vampires being depicted as mindless killers (that assuaged a little later in the series), but I found the scientific approach interesting (sadly that was less prominent later in the series).

Ian Somerhalder played the lead. He's always nice to watch, but I preferred him as a vampire in "Vampire Diaries". Whom I really liked was Peter Outerbridge. He plays the villain and appears in almost all episodes. Other FK alumni included Phil Bedard and Larry Lalonde as executive producers of the series.

The series is based on a book which I haven't read. The way it ended suggests that there is a second season planned.

Nigel Bennett has recurring roles in Coroner and Tin Star.

Coroner is a new crime series about a newly appointed female coroner set in Toronto. Nigel plays the chief coroner. He first appears in episode 4. Coroner airs Mondays on CBC.

In the second season of Tin Star Nigel plays a leading member of a secluded religious community in Alberta. He first appears in episode 2. Tin Star airs on Amazon Prime and in the UK. The DVD release is set for April 15, 2019.

Nigel had a guest appearance in this week's episode of Frankie Drake Mysteries. He plays a shady magician. Brief, but nicely mysterious.
pj1228: Lacroix (Default)
Nigel recently had a guest role in Designated Survivor. He plays a former benefactor of Kiefer Sutherland's president while he was still an architect. After the president finds out that Nigel's character had withheld information about an indigenious tribe being evicted for land development he seeks a way to stop the project. Nigel and Kiefer Sutherland have a nice verbal sparring match.

Finally I saw The Shape of Water in the movie theatre. What a delightful film! A nice change from today's action-packed movies. Instead it was wonderfully nostalgic with a lot of nods towards classic Hollywood. Ranging from Jack Arnold's Creature from the Black Lagoon over Betty Grable to Mr. Ed. The sentence "Bonanza is too violent for kids" was hilarious. Oh those good old times...

The end was totally awesome. And I liked the music so much (in particular Renée Fleming's "You'll Never Know") that I'm going to buy the soundtrack.

And then there was Nigel, speaking Russian all the time, with subtitles. He appears in several scenes. I was torn between watching him and reading what he was actually saying. I definitely need to watch that again.

John Kapelos was supposed to be in the movie as well, but I have to admit that I missed or didn't recognise him. Shame on me! Another reason to watch it again.

Other familiar sites included a teal-coloured Cadillac, although it wasn't a convertible. And I recognised several Toronto locations, such as streetcar tracks, Massey Hall, Cherry Street shore, Gardiner Expressway, and the beautiful Elgin Theatre.

Both, Geraint and Nigel are currently on stage in Stratford, Ontario, and received excellent reviews.

Geraint Wyn Davies plays Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare and Sir Peter Teazle in The School for Scandal by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.

A collection of reviews is available here for Twelfth Night and The School for Scandal. The Globe and Mail wrote about School for Scandal that Ger gives one of his most charmingly permeable performances ever.

(Some links are wrong, but if you type the play's name into the newspaper's search box, you'll get there)

Nigel Bennett plays Kadmos in what has been called a jawdropping production of Bakkhai by Euripides and Ted in the novel mystery thriller The Virgin Trial by Kate Hennig. The character he portraits in the latter has been described as deliciously devious...

A collection of reviews is available here for Bakkhai and The Virgin Trial.

Other FK alumni currently appearing at the Stratford Festival are Lucy Peacock (The Human Factor) in Twelfth Night and Bakkhai and Joseph Ziegler (The Code) in Timon of Athens and The School for Scandal.

Sadly, FK alumni Richard McMillan passed away last Sunday after a battle with cancer. He played Brother Matthew in the flashback of first season's Dying to Know You and Lindley in second season's Can't Run, Can't Hide.

A detailed orbituary can be found here.

Screen:

Nigel can currently be seen in 3D in the movie xXx3 - The Return of Xander Cage.
I've seen it last night, in 3D, but only in German. It's a brief appearance, but it's nice to see him on the big screen.

Geraint Wyn Davies

Geraint is currently appearing at the Stratford Festival in "Breath of Kings: Rebellion" and "Breath of Kings: Redemption". The 2 plays are a new destillation of Shakespeare's 4 history plays "Richard II", Henry IV - Part 1", Henry IV - Part 2", and "Henry V". Geraint plays Sir John Falstaff, Captain Fluellen, and the Old Gardener.

Here's a trailer:

Both plays run through September 24.

Nigel Bennett had a brief appearance in last week's episode of Rookie Blue (season 5, episode 5), the Canadian police series set in Toronto (sounds familiar?). Nigel played a psychiatrist who was called in as a witness. The officer who questioned him was played by Ben Bass who is a regular in the series. :)
